13 QUESTIONS FOR YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
13 QUESTIONS FOR YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
1. GENERAL “ WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW”
Wedding Photography has become an art form and interviewing your potential wedding photographers can be a daunting and often a time consuming task. Whether or not you choose to hire the Alon David Photography San Diego Wedding Photography Studio Team or another wedding photography studio, we at Alon David Wedding Photography Studio have created a list we feel is the top 13 must ask questions you need answered to insure you will find the perfect photographer for your wedding day. This list can’t possibly cover everything you may want to know, so make sure that you are also paying close attention to the soft-skills every good Wedding and Engagement photographer should have that are mentioned in our BLOG section 12 Months for Planning Your Wedding Day
2. WHAT IS YOUR WEDDING STYLE?
This should be your first and most important question as this is the style of photography that interests you. Alon David Photography San Diego Wedding and Engagement Photographers are primarily photojournalists with a touch of fashion and fine-art influenced wedding photography techniques. Our photographers will capture your wedding as it unfolds memorializing your special day with un-posed candid treasures. Look through Alon David Wedding Photos to see this amazing style and see if it fits with your wedding vision as well. Of course we also take the shots you suggest of groups as requested but we do it with more flare and style than most wedding photographers. For more information about our wedding photography style and philosophy check out our About Us page.
3. HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU WORKED
SPECIFICALLY AS A WEDDING
This question is designed to find out if the photographers you are interested in are primarily wedding photographers, or if they are just general photographers who shoot a little bit of everything and do not really specialize in weddings or any one area. You should be looking for a photographer that mainly does wedding photography and has the experience and style that you are looking for in your wedding to make sure you get the best for your investment plus yo will know what style you will get being that experience wedding photographers will have the same style with every wedding they do.
4. HOW MANY WEDDINGS HAVE YOU SHOT,
AND HAVE YOU SHOT ANY SIMILAR TO MINE?
This is a great question to get an idea of how much experience your Wedding photographer has in general and if has done any wedding that will be similar to your wedding style or needs. The number of years they have been in business is not generally a good gauge of experience since some wedding photographers may only work very part time. If a photographer only shoots a few weddings in a year, they may have 3 years of experience, but may have only shot 20 weddings in that time frame. It is very important to view the wedding photographer you interview and ask to see a complete wedding and weddings that he has done.
5. WILL THERE BE A CONTRACT OF THE
SERVICES TO BE PROVIDED. IF SO, WILL I GET A
There are many studios that don’t create Wedding contracts for their wedding photography clients. You should require a written contract from your photographer that specifically details each service they will be providing, specific pricing, termination resolution terms, etc. This way you know what you are getting. A contract should be created for every ones protection, yours and for the wedding photographers. Only hire a Wedding photographer that will create a contract with you, and be leery of photographers that don’t typically write contracts for their clients. Make sure to protect your self.
6. HOW MANY OTHER EVENTS WILL YOU
PHOTOGRAPH THAT WEEKEND?
Larger studios with multiple master photographers (such as Alon David Photography Wedding Photography) will often double and even triple book dates since we have the resources to handle that volume. However, smaller studios often plan numerous weddings on the same weekend without having adequate resources available to them. Envision a studio with a single wedding photographer scheduled to shoot 2-3 weddings in the same weekend. The attention to the details and to all client services could suffer in this situation. Make sure to book your wedding with the photographer that you happy with the style Alon David is the main Wedding photographer for his Studio
7. WHAT HAPPENS IF THE PHOTOGRAPHER IS
While it is highly unlikely that the photographer will be ill on your wedding day, there is still the possibility this could happen. It is crucial that the photography studio has a plan in place to take care of the situation in case of illness. Alon David Photography Wedding Photography has three equally skilled pro photographers that can take over in case someone is sick, giving you added piece of mind for your big day. This is never happened, however we always ant to make sure our clients are protected.
8. DO YOU HAVE INSURANCE?
Professional wedding photographers should have the proper insurance for their business. Insurance protects the photographer against equipment theft, but more importantly it provides liability protection in case a guest breaks her leg while failing on our gear. If a wedding photographer does not have insurance, chances are they are inexperienced, or simply aren’t taking their business seriously. Alon David Photography San Diego Wedding Photography carries general business, equipment and liability insurance to insure that should something unexpected happen the insurance coverage is in place to protect those affected. Alon David Photography San Diego Wedding Photography has can also add the venue and church as additional insured if it needed.
9. DOES THE PACKAGE I AM INTERESTED IN
INCLUDE AN ASSISTANT?
Yes all my collections include a second shooter unless the client does not want that. Weddings have many faucets and there are many moments in which one single photographer cannot cover everything completely on their own. Using a Pro wedding photographer and an assistant will ensure we are able to catch those often missed moments for you. With an assistant you are able to capture two perspectives at the same time and get more images what are harder to do when shooting solo.
10. WHAT KIND OF EQUIPMENT DO YOU — USE?
DO YOU HAVE BACKUP EQUIPMENT?
Our studio uses top quality camera bodies along with the finest quality lenses from Nikon. While wedding photographers don’t necessarily need the best of the best, it is important to have a good set of equipment. Make sure your photographer has at least the following items along with backups. Nothing would be worse than for the photographer to miss half of your wedding photos because his camera or lens broke, and he didn’t have a spare. Check out our complete gear list.
11. SHOULD MY EVENT LAST LONGER THAN
SCHEDULED, WILL YOU STAY? IS THERE AN
Know the photographers policy on overages ahead of time so you will have a plan should you decide to ask them to stay past the contracted time. This is very imporatnt so you won’t be surprised by your wedding photographer asking for an additional money before they give you your wedding photos. Knowing what you help you insure your wedding photographer won’t suddenly pack up and leave when their time is up if there is more you want them to photograph at your wedding or reception. Make sure to read our reviews to get the feel of working with Alon David
12. WHAT ATTIRE WILL THE PHOTOGRAPHER AND THEIR ASSISTANTS WEAR?
Wedding photographers are a big part of the wedding day, but it’s important that they go un-noticed and are not in any way a distraction. Wedding photographers should be dressed to blend in as much as possible. For religious or cultural ceremonies, there may be certain colors that are considered taboo. Make sure your photographers will be dressed appropriately for your wedding day. The typical Alon David Photography wedding photography attire is black suit pants with a black polo or dress shirt. We dress completely in black because we want to go unnoticed by the clients and guests, so that we can capture the event as photojournalists.
13. HOW LONG AFTER THE EVENT WILL THE PROOFS, ALBUM, BE READY?
Each wedding photography studio varies in the time it takes to produce and deliver your pictures. Studios that do not do any post production or edited may try to entice you by saying your photos will be ready the next day, or even within a week. However, most studios that develop and produce their images will take anywhere from 2 weeks to 4 weeks.
Alon David Photography Wedding Photography has developed a consistent production schedule which will get you to view 2-3 images the day of the wedding, Yes the day of he wedding. and all the images within 2 weeks.
